Edwin Abbott Abbott’s Flatland is the story of a two-dimensional universe as told by one of its inhabitants, a square who is introduced to the mysteries of three-dimensional space by a sphere. Written in large part as a satire on Abbott’s closed minded Victorian contemporaries, Flatland ably demonstrates the absurdity of those unwilling to admit their own ignorances, even when they scoff at the ignorance of others.
